QWO® is the first and only FDA-approved injectable clinically proven to reduce moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women.
Cellulite is caused by factors such as hormones, genetics, and lifestyle choices. Often, no amount of diet and exercise can diminish the dimpled appearance of skin and, although liposuction can help to decrease unwanted fatty tissue, it is not designed to improve cellulite.
Cellulite occurs because of a problem with the layer of connective tissue beneath it. Vertical tethers (fibrous septae) go through the fat and insert into the undersurface of the skin. The tight bands pull down the skin, creating the puckering you see on the surface of the skin. QWO® (collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aas) contains injectable enzymes that break down the collagen responsible for cellulite banding.
Unlike men, women’s connective tissue is vertical in nature and more susceptible to the formation of cellulite. In fact, it is reported that as many as 80 percent of women regardless of size have cellulite. A consultation will determine if a patient is a candidate for treatment.
PROCEDURE
Patients receive three treatments - one every three weeks. Treatment sessions are completed in approximately 20 minutes depending on the size of the treatment area.
In clinical trials, no post-treatment downtime was required. Individual results may vary.
RECOVERY
The most common side effects include injection site bruising, pain, areas of hardness, itching, redness, discoloration, and swelling and warmth in the treatment area. In clinical studies, side effects generally lasted less than three weeks.
The intensity of bruising may lessen with each treatment. Bruising generally resolved within about 2 weeks.
